Andreas Schmid (theologian)
Andreas Schmid (born January 9, 1840 in Zaumberg (today Immenstadt im Allgäu ), † April 23, 1911 in Munich ) was a Catholic priest and theologian.
biography
Andreas Schmid was born as the youngest child of the farmers Joseph Anton Schmid and Anna Maria geb. Käser († 1840), in Zaumberg. His older brother was the priest and theologian Alois Schmid . This taught u. a. at the grammar schools in Zweibrücken and Dillingen , where Andreas Schmid was one of his students.
From 1860 Andreas Schmid studied in Munich, from 1861–1863 he was an alumne of the Georgianum seminary and in 1863 was ordained a priest.
Initially a chaplain in Ettringen (Wertach) , the new priest came to Dillingen in 1864 in the same function. In 1865 he advanced to the 1865 sub-rain of the Georgianum Munich, in 1866 he received his doctorate.
From 1876 until his retirement in 1909 he was director of the Georgianum and also set up the historical collection there. He has taught pastoral theology , homiletics , liturgy and catechetics . From 1877 to 1909 he held the chair for liturgical science at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . As director of the Georgianum and as a professor he succeeded Valentin Thalhofer (1825-1891). Eduard Weigl (1869–1960) was his own successor in these offices.
Like his ennobled brother Alois, Andreas Schmid was buried in Immenstadt.
Andreas Schmid wrote numerous theological and church history works. Alois Schmid (1854–1911), a member of the Reichstag, was his nephew.
