Pietro Avoscani
Pietro Avoscani (* 1816 in Livorno ; † 1. March 1891 in Alexandria ) was a in Egypt active architect of Italian origin.
life and work
Ersilio Michel describes in Esuli Italiani in Egitto that Pietro Avoscani was born as the son of the nobleman Francesco Avoscani. He moved to Alexandria on March 28, 1837, where various buildings were built according to his plans.
The palace of Gabbar (1846-48), the Raʾs-at-Tīn palace (1847), the palaces of Abbasiyya and Hilmiyya (1849), the palaces of Gazira and Chubra (1860-61), the theater (1869 ), the International Market of Minia al-Bassal or Bourse of Minet el Bassal (1871) designed by Avoscani. In 1862 the nobleman Zizinia commissioned him to build the Teatro Zizinia , the largest theater in Alexandria, which was inspired by the model of the Scala in Milan .
