Antonio Lasciac

Antonio Lasciac ( Slovenian : Anton Laščak ; born September 21, 1856 in Gorizia , † December 26, 1946 in Cairo ) was an Italian architect, engineer, poet and musician.

Apart from his hometown Gorizia, he worked as an architect in many cities in the Middle East , especially in Egypt.

Life

Lasciac studied architecture at a technical university in Vienna. From 1883 to 1888 he was involved in the reconstruction of the European center of Alexandria , which was bombed by the British Mediterranean fleet in July 1882 in the course of the Urabi uprising . After short work stays in Naples and Rome, he returned to Alexandria, where he was promoted as an architect by the Egyptian government, especially the Khedive family . Under Abbas Hilmi Pascha he was the official palace architect.
