Alois Schmid (born June 2, 1854 in Zaumberg; † January 1, 1911 in Immenstadt ) was a German politician and member of the Reichstag for the Center Party (1893-1911).

Life

Schmid was born as a farmer's son in the community of Zaumberg (today in Immenstadt ) in Oberallgäu . He was a nephew of the theologian and philosopher Alois von Schmid (1825-1910). After attending elementary school in the neighboring village of Bühl am Alpsee , he became a farmer in Zaumberg. From 1874 to 1877 he did his military service with the 3rd Infantry Regiment in Lindau . From the mid- 1890s he lived in Immenstadt and worked as a local historian and writer.

On June 15, 1893, Alois Schmid was elected to the 9th German Reichstag for the Catholic Center Party in the Immenstadt-Lindau- Kempten constituency. He was able to defend the mandate in the Reichstag elections in 1898, 1903 and 1907. When advising protective tariffs and trade agreements in the 1890s, he advocated the interests of local butter and cheese manufacturers.

Schmid died of the long-term effects of a tram accident. The funeral speech was given by his parliamentary group colleague Wilhelm Mayer (1874–1923).
