Wilhelm Mayer (politician)
Wilhelm Mayer (born November 18, 1874 in Enkenbach , † March 6, 1923 in Munich ) was a German politician ( center , BVP ).
Life and work
After attending the elementary school in Enkenbach , Mayer, who was a Roman Catholic , switched to the grammar school in Kaiserslautern , where he passed the Abitur. He then studied law and political science in Heidelberg , Würzburg and Munich . In Würzburg he received his doctorate in political science in 1898. In 1900 he passed the “legal state bankruptcy” in Munich, as the second state examination in Bavaria was called at the time.
From February 1920 to January 1923 Mayer was the German ambassador to France . He was recalled by President Friedrich Ebert in protest against the French invasion of the Ruhr area .
Wilhelm Mayer was the father of the CSU politician Maria Probst (1902–1967).
Political party
Mayer originally belonged to the center . When the Bavarian regional association split off on January 9, 1920, Mayer also took part in the founding of the new Bavarian People's Party .
MP
Mayer had been a member of the Reichstag since 1907, where he represented the constituency of Swabia 5 ( Kaufbeuren ) until the end of the Empire . Until his resignation on February 17, 1920, he was a member of the Weimar National Assembly . From the election of the first Reichstag of the Weimar Republic until his death, he was again a member of the Reichstag .
