The Bauer cabinet was a cabinet of the Reich government chaired by Gustav Bauer ( SPD ) during the Weimar Republic . It was formed after the Scheidemann cabinet broke up in June 1919 over the question of whether or not to sign the Versailles Treaty . The resigned DDP did not re-enter the government until October 1919, thus reestablishing the Weimar coalition . As a result of the Kapp Putsch , the government was forced to resign on March 26, 1920 and replaced by the Müller I cabinet .
