Peter Stockmeier

Peter Stockmeier (born December 29, 1925 in Hemhof , Upper Bavaria , † November 19, 1988 in Munich ) was a Roman Catholic church historian and university professor.

Life

After completing his theological and philosophical studies, Peter Stockmeier received the sacrament of ordination in 1952 . In 1955 he received his doctorate in theology, in 1961 he received his habilitation under Adolf Wilhelm Ziegler . In 1964 he became professor for ancient church history and patrology in Trier . From 1966 to 1969 Stockmeier lectured at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen , and from 1969 he was Professor of Church History at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . Between 1983 and 1988 he was the first chairman of the Association for Diocesan History of Munich and Freising. He published numerous works on the history of the early church, the councils of the first centuries, the theology of the church fathers and the history of the Freising diocese .
