L'UniCo is the campus radio of the University of Paderborn . It has been available in Paderborn city center and the surrounding area since November 4th, 2009 on the VHF frequency 89.4 MHz. In addition, the radio program is also offered via audio stream on the Internet.
history
In 2004, the University of Paderborn began planning its own campus radio. After the founding of the sponsoring association “L'UniCo - Campusradio Paderborn eV”, there was a ballot among all students in 2006, in which a large majority voted for the establishment and financial support of the campus radio, but because of the low turnout, it was not a decision; the approval was then given by the student parliament. At the beginning of 2009, the VHF transmission frequency was assigned and approval by the State Agency for Media in North Rhine-Westphalia as a university radio was granted. The actual broadcasting started after the installation of the technology (transmitter antenna and studio) on November 4th, 2009. Up to this point in time, L'UniCo had already broadcast as Internet radio via a webstream for two years and had produced community radio programs on Radio Hochstift .

L'UniCo broadcasts 6 to 10 hours a day, moderated live, the rest of the time, music selected by the editor can be heard. The current (as of 2014) formats are:

Location and technology
The university radio in Paderborn broadcasts from a professionally equipped VHF radio studio from the rooms of the university; Among other things, a professional DHD RM3200D radio mixer is available, and the DABiS800 transmission system is still used . The transmitter itself is also housed on the campus: Due to the favorable location of the campus above the city center of Paderborn, a tower of the university building was chosen as the transmitter location.
financing
The funds for ongoing operations are covered by grants from the student body , among other things . The cost of the start of broadcasting of around 50,000 euros was financed by tuition fees, start-up funding from the university, funds from the student body and our own income.
