LKAB Malmtrafik AB, formerly Malmtrafik i Kiruna aktiebolag (MTAB) , is a subsidiary of the mining company LKAB ( Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara Aktiebolag ) based in Kiruna . As a railway company, it transports ore from LKAB's own mines, the Kiruna iron ore mine and the Malmberget works to Luleå and Narvik via the Luleå – Narvik railway ( ore railway ).

The ore ports in Luleå and Narvik and the steel mill of SSAB ( Svenskt Stål AB ) in Luleå are served. According to its own information, LKAB Malmtrafik transports 45% of the goods in Swedish rail freight traffic, making it the largest freight company in Sweden.

Vehicle fleet

From the year 2000, 17 new locomotives with the designation IORE were ordered from ADtranz and later Bombardier . The locomotives are used in front of trains up to 750 m long and 8600 t heavy .
