The LMH 15 is a two-axle industrial locomotive of the AEG , which was manufactured in 1928 and used in shunting and factory traffic on the Kleinbahn Langenfeld-Monheim-Hitdorf (LMH) - since 1963 railways of the city of Monheim (BSM).
The electric locomotive was in use by the company until the end of electrical operation. The locomotive is erected as a memorial in the city center of Monheim am Rhein .
History and commitment
Because the transport volume on the railways of the city of Monheim rose sharply in the 1920s, the railroad needed stronger and heavier locomotives. The LMH 15 was put into service in 1928 as the last electric locomotive for freight transport .
The locomotive could move trains with a load of 500 t. When it was commissioned, the compressed air brake was also introduced on the railways of the city of Monheim.
The heavy handover trains to the Shell refinery , which was the main area of application for the locomotive, were carried with a leader by the LMH 14 if required . In order to be better perceived when driving through narrow streets, it was given an orange-yellow paint job and special signaling devices such as a rotating beacon and a bell. Until the end of electrical operation, it carried the main load of freight traffic.
The locomotive was then placed on a playground in Leverkusen , and later it was returned to the BSM by exchanging it. After it had been repainted green in the Opladen repair shop , it was erected as a memorial in 1995 on the depot and in 2001 on Rathausplatz in Monheim.
technology
The locomotive was designed in direct current technology and equipped with a pantograph . The two traction motors with 121 kW each were traction motors in the cradle .
In addition to a handbrake, the locomotive had a compressed air brake and was equipped with a shunting platform on the circumferences at the front. The front section in the driver's cab was designed with wide glazing to improve the driver’s view. The locomotive was later equipped with a shunting radio .
