history

The company has its roots in the 1874 established railway company Compagnie du chemin de fer Lausanne-Ouchy et des eaux de Bret . The purpose of this was to ensure the transport of people and goods between the port of Ouchy , the station of the then Jura-Simplon Railway and the Place Saint-François in the city center of Lausanne in the industrial area of the then Flon river valley . The railway company came into possession of extensive properties in the then river valley. As a result, the river was filled in or canalized in order to lay tracks on the resulting level and to set up a freight station and warehouses .

In the first half of the 20th century, the area developed into the most important cargo handling point in the Lausanne region with extensive warehouse facilities. The former railway company developed more and more into the manager of the real estate that was created there, which it gradually acquired, making it one of the largest landowners in the city.

With the decreasing demand for warehouse space in the Flon valley of the freight yard and warehouse area in 1950 lost ever more important. The increasingly vacant warehouses were converted into office space or for other purposes until the late 1990s. Musicians, painters, galleries, small shops, cultural venues and discos such as the MAD Club , which is known far beyond Lausanne, have settled in the quarter , making the Flon Valley a popular nightlife district.

In the meantime, the freight yard was completely shut down in 1979. In 1984 the Compagnie du chemin de fer Lausanne-Ouchy also parted with the transport business, which was taken over by the municipal transport company. The company changed its name to LO Holding Lausanne-Ouchy SA and has since concentrated on the development and management of its real estate portfolio.

In 1999, the design plans for the Flon site were sealed with the city of Lausanne. As a result, LO Holding rebuilt the industrial buildings, some of which are now listed , and built several superstructures on the site, including a 925-seat multi -storey car park and a cinema complex with seven halls and 1,800 seats.
