LPG cake

LPG cake is a sheet cake from Central Germany . It is a layer cake, the bottom layer of which consists of a dough made from flour, eggs, margarine and sugar. This dough is first baked and then coated with a thick layer of buttercream . This is followed by a layer of shortbread biscuits , which were previously soaked in brandy . As the top layer, a chocolate topping completes the cake.

The cake was named after the agricultural production cooperatives (LPG) in the GDR . It consists only of simple ingredients that were always available in the GDR and is very high in calories. The cake may have been invented in Thuringia around 1965 .
