The LAVEBA cooperative based in St. Gallen is a mainly in the agriculture active Swiss trading and service companies . The group of companies, organized in the form of a cooperative , focuses on the rural region in Eastern Switzerland and is strongly anchored there. The cooperative employs 535 people and generated sales of around 500 million Swiss francs in 2017.

Field of activity

Most of the 8,000 or so farmers in Eastern Switzerland are members of an agricultural cooperative known as Landi . The aim of these cooperatives is to promote the economic interests of their members. For this purpose, the Landi have joined forces in the LAVEBA cooperative association.

In this function as a cooperative association, the members are supplied with the necessary means of production such as seeds, fertilizer or animal feed. At the same time, the cooperative association takes over the agricultural products and processes and markets them. In addition, the company is increasingly also in other business areas involved, acting under the brand Agrola with fuels and fuels and performs under the brand Landi a retail chain .

history

The company was founded in 1899 as a central point for purchasing agricultural commodities and in 1905 expanded into a cooperative association for the canton of St. Gallen . Over time, more members from outside the canton were added, so that in 1914 the name was changed to "Association of Agricultural Cooperatives of the Canton of St. Gallen and neighboring Areas". In 1992 the company name was shortened significantly, initially to “LV-Landverband”, 1995 to “LV-St.Gallen” and in 2019 to “LAVEBA Genossenschaft”.
