LW6 (Paralympics)

LW6 is a starting class for athletes in Paralympic winter sports for athletes in Nordic skiing and biathlon . The membership of athletes in the starting class is outlined as follows:

Skiers of class LW6 have disabilities disabilities in an upper limb. One of the following minimum criteria must be met:

  • Loss of an upper limb at or above the elbow - or
  • Loss of strength with a maximum score of 2 in the muscle groups wrist and elbow region - or
  • Loss of the upper extremities with a length below the humerus of the unaffected opposite side.

The following applies:

  • the athlete uses two skis and a stick - and
  • Use of prostheses is not permitted - and
  • the arm affected by impairments must be fixed to the body.

The division into classes indicates the degree of functional disability of an athlete that is relevant to competition . Athletes in classes LW1-LW9 start standing.
