LW7 / 5 (Paralympics)

LW7 / 5 is a starting class for athletes in Paralympic winter sports for athletes in alpine skiing , nordic skiing and biathlon . The membership of athletes in the starting class is outlined as follows:

LW7 / 5 skiers have disabilities in both upper extremities. One of the following minimum criteria must be met:

  • Loss of both upper extremities at least at the level of the metacarpals - or
  • Loss of strength in both upper extremities with loss of mobility of fingers and thumbs so that the athlete cannot hold sticks - or
  • Dysmelia of both hands.

The following applies:

  • the athlete uses 2 skis but no sticks - and
  • the use of prostheses is not permitted.

The division into classes indicates the degree of functional disability of an athlete that is relevant to competition . Athletes in classes LW1-LW9 start standing.
