LW2 (Paralympics)

LW2 is a starting class for athletes in Paralympic winter sports for athletes in alpine skiing , Nordic skiing and biathlon . The membership of athletes in the starting class is outlined as follows:

Skiers of Class LW2 have disabilities a lower limb including the pelvis. One of the following minimum criteria must be met:

  • Loss of a lower extremity at or above the knee joint - or
  • Removed mobility in the knee joint and / or hip joint - or
  • Loss of strength in muscle groups, also with partial loss of knee flexion / extension - or
  • One-sided leg length shortening (no longer than the femur bone of the unaffected opposite side).

The following applies:

  • the athlete uses prostheses and two skis and two sticks.

The division into classes indicates the degree of functional disability of an athlete that is relevant to competition . Athletes in classes LW1-LW9 start standing. Athletes in classes LW1-LW4 (leg handicap) can be reclassified to seat class LW12.
