LW8 (Paralympics)
LW8 is a starting class for athletes in Paralympic winter sports for athletes in Nordic skiing and biathlon . The membership of athletes in the starting class is outlined as follows:
LW8 skiers have disabilities of one upper limb. One of the following minimum criteria must be met:
- Loss of an upper limb below the elbow - or
- Loss of strength in the upper extremity (with a loss of mobility in finger flexion, finger extension, and thumb movement) - or
- Elbow mobility at most 5 ° on one side without the possibility of developing strength when using poles.
The following applies:
- the athlete uses two skis and a stick - and
- the use of prostheses is not allowed - and
- the affected arm must not support the stick arm.
The division into classes indicates the degree of functional disability of an athlete that is relevant to competition . Athletes in classes LW1-LW9 start standing.
