La Chapelle is a high station on line 2 of the Paris Métro .

location

The station is located on the border of the 10th and 18th arrondissements in Paris in the median of the Boulevard de la Chapelle .

Surname

The Boulevard de la Chapelle gave the station its name. It is located in the south of the former village of La Chapelle-Sainte-Geneviève (from 1830: La Chapelle-Saint-Denis), which was incorporated into Paris in 1860.

history

The station opened on January 31, 1903, when the section of Line 2 from Anvers to Bagnolet (since 1970: Alexandre Dumas ) was put into operation. There has been an underground pedestrian connection to the long-distance and regional train station Gare du Nord since 1993 .

description

The La Chapelle station is located on a 2.2 kilometer long viaduct section , it has two side platforms on two main tracks. The viaduct was built so that the tracks to the Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est stations , which are located in cuts on both sides of the station, do not have to be driven under in a deep tunnel .

traffic

From 1914 to 1981 line 2 was used by Sprague-Thomson trains. Since it was not to be converted to vehicles with rubber tires in the medium term, the MF 67 series was launched in 1979 , completely replacing its predecessor within two years. Series vehicles of the MF 01 series have been used since 2008 , now exclusively, in the La Chapelle station.

Others

At located near the train station Gare du Nord is a possibility to change to the RER -lines B and D as well as at the station Magenta to the line  e .
