La Gaia Scienza
La Gaia Scienza is an Italian chamber music ensemble consisting of a string quartet and a pianist . It is directed by Paolo Beschi, who had previously founded the Il Giardino Armonico ensemble , from which he already knows his fellow musicians Federica Valli and Stefano Barneschi.
The name refers to the medieval circle of Toulouse poets Gai Saber , who endeavored to preserve the Provencal troubadour poetry. The German translation of The Happy Science can be found in Friedrich Nietzsche 's work of the same name , for example .
On the recordings published by Winter & Winter , La Gaia Scienza has so far devoted herself to the composers Johannes Brahms , Franz Schubert and Robert Schumann . They share the album Love Fugue with Uri Caine .
