La Maschera di Cera is an Italian progressive rock band that was formed in 2001.

Band history

Fabio Zuffanti founded the band to be able to play retro-prog in the tradition of the Italian bands of the 1970s. He brought Agostino Macor and Marco Cavani from his first band Finisterre as well as Alessandro Corvaglia and Andrea Monetti to La Maschera di Cera. The self-titled debut album was released in 2002 and was followed by some concerts in Italy, the second album was released in 2003. In the same year Marco Cavani was replaced by Maurizio Di Tollo.

Until 2004 the band played numerous concerts, which also resulted in a DVD and a live album. The third studio album was released in 2006. La Maschera di Cera then appeared again across Europe and in 2007 for the first time at the NEARfest and began work on another album, which, however, dragged on until 2010. In the meantime, Matteo Nahum had joined the band, but left again in 2011. The fifth studio album was released in 2013 in an Italian-language and an English-language version. It refers to the 1973 album Felona e Sorona by the prog band Le Orme .
