Jean de la Taille

Jean de La Taille (* around 1535 at the Castle of Bondaroy ; † 1608 in Paris ) was a French poet and playwright during the Renaissance .

Life

La Taille grew up in Paris, studied law in Orléans and then served in the royal army, perhaps also with the Huguenots . Of course, his natural predilection was literature . In 1572 and 1573, “Saul” and “La famine” came out, both of which are among the best French tragedies .

La Taille also published two tragedies by his brother Jacques de La Taille (1542–62) and the treatise "L´art de la tragédie" , in which he summarized the contemporary views on the art of tragedy poetry; he himself called for certain rules to be observed, but also spoke out in favor of the need to arouse the audience's feelings. In addition, La Taille wrote political essays.
