Fukuchiyama ( Japanese 福 知 山 市 , - shi ) is a Japanese city in the north of Kyoto Prefecture .

geography

Fukuchiyama is located northwest of Kyoto and southeast of Tottori .

Fukuchiyama under the title "Kyoto by the Sea" ( 海 の 京都 umi no Kyōto ), a marketing slogan for the northwest coastal region of Kyoto on the Sea of Japan.

history

In the Ritsuryō administrative division of antiquity, the later core city area of Fukuchiyama was part of the Amata district of the Tamba province .

Fukuchiyama is a late medieval-early modern castle town that Toyotomi Hideyoshi built for his adopted son Hidekatsu. After his death in 1593 the castle came to Onoki Shigekatsu, who was deposed in 1600. After a few changes of occupation , the Kutsuki ( 朽木 ) ruled the Edo period principality of Fukuchiyama from 1689 to 1886 . The Castle Fukuchiyama is partly preserved.

Fukuchiyama ( 福 知 山 県 , - ken ), which was converted from a principality to a prefecture after the Meiji Restoration , only existed for a short time before it was incorporated into Toyooka . This was divided between Hyōgo and Kyōto in 1876 , the Amata district came to the latter.

Fukuchiyama, previously known as Fukuchiyama- chō ( 福 知 山 町 ) city in Amata County and seat of the county government until it was abolished in the 1920s, has been a district - free city since April 1, 1937 as Fukuchiyama-shi . It was the third in Kyoto after Kyoto and Fushimi (incorporated into Kyoto in 1931). After the major territorial reforms of the 20th and 21st centuries, Fukuchiyama also extended into Tango Province .
