Labeobarbus petitjeani ( Syn .: Barbus petitjeani ) is a medium-sized barbel species from Africa.

Systematics

Labeobarbus petitjeani belongs to the hexaploid barb species of Africa and occurs sympatric with Labeobarbus bynni , which also occurs in the Bafing and Niger Rivers. One differentiates both by the number of scales on the sidelines and the presence of the chin flap.

description

Labeobarbus petitjeani's lips do not have a chin flap. The last fin ray of the dorsal fin is larger than the head in larger specimens. The fish is colored gray or pale gray, the side scales have a yellow-orange color, while the underside of the belly is white. The fins are pink to yellowish, only the dorsal fin is dark gray. Barbus petitjeani has the following fin formula : dorsal 13, anal 8. In general, B. petitjeani does not grow larger than 20 centimeters. In exceptional cases, however, up to about 120 centimeters. In the Niger and Bafing rivers, the species can weigh up to 20 kilograms.

distribution and habitat

Labeobarbus petitjeani is common in West Africa. It occurs in Senegal and Guinea in the Bafing River and Niger River .

Very little is known about the way of life of Labeobarbus petitjeani .

Use

Labeobarbus petitjeani is of little economic importance.
