Laborjournal is the title of a journal that the editors refer to as the “Service Magazine for Medicine and Life Sciences”. It is aimed at scientific and technical employees in biological and medical laboratories and contains, among other things, news from the field of biological and medical research , background reports , economic data and analyzes on pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, interviews with scientists , politicians and business experts, information on laboratory methods, presentations of individual research groups in the “Journal Club”, book reviews and various columns that appear regularly . In addition, a job market and product comparisons and overviews of laboratory equipment are regular parts of the magazine.

The magazine was founded in 1994 by Hanspeter Sailer and Kai Herfort. It appears with ten issues per year, monthly with the exception of a semi-annual double issue, by LJ-Verlag Herfort und Sailer , based in Merzhausen . Editor-in-chief is Ralf Neumann. The subscription is free for institutes and working groups at public universities and research institutions , a subscription for companies and private individuals is chargeable. The circulation is currently 28,900 copies per issue, around ten percent of which are for subscription customers. Almost 26,000 copies are sold in Germany , around 1,500 each in Austria and Switzerland .

After Hanspeter Sailer left the company, the publishing house has been operating under the name Kai Herfort, Hubert Rehm , Ralf Neumann GbR LJ-Verlag since 2000 . Since April 2006, a European-wide English-language edition has been published under the title Lab Times with a print run of 26,500 copies. This was independent in terms of content and was not based on a pure translation of the German-language edition. The English language edition was discontinued at the end of 2017.
