Molkenhaus (Bad Harzburg)
The whey house in the Harz low mountain range near Bad Harzburg in the Goslar district in Lower Saxony is a stable building built as a wooden house in 1822, which later served as a guest house and excursion restaurant.
Geographical location
The whey house is located in the Upper Harz in the Harz National Park . It is 3 km south-southeast of the central city of Bad Harzburg and about 1 km east of the Winterberg located Rudolf cliff on the flood plain on the Ecker influx Big Hasselbach carrying Hassel pond to approximately 524 m above sea level. NN . The Eckerstausee extends about 2 km south-southeast on the border with Saxony-Anhalt .
history
The first Molkenhaus was in 1665 the bailiff Johann Heinrich von Uslar on the eastern slope of the rope mountain , near the Fuhlelohnbach , build. After this was given up in 1822, the second whey house was built on the Hasselteich . Both houses were once used to milk the cattle near mountain pastures without driving them to the distant farms. They were owned by the Bündheim -Bad Harzburg manor . From 1891 the whey house developed into an inn ; a game feeding point , where game can be observed, has been added. In 1973 the former whey house was burned down and in 1976 replaced by a new building in the same place, which was used as a restaurant until the beginning of 2019. The building has been empty since February 2019.
