Two of Us was a German pop duo . It was brought into being in 1985 by the guitarist and keyboardist Ulrich Herter and the drummer Thomas Dörr in Reutlingen . The band was named after the Beatles song of the same name . With the title Blue Night Shadow , both of them immediately hit a top hit in the German-speaking world. After a lack of success, the duo broke up again in 1988.

history

Herter and Dörr met at the end of the 1970s in the band Hubert Kah , for which Dörr was hired as a drummer. A year after Hubert Kah rose to become one of the top stars of the Neue Deutsche Welle with hits like Rosemarie and the starry sky co-written by Herter , Herter and Dörr founded the Kiz project together with their friend Joachim Gaiser in a Reutlingen bar in 1983 . With the hit Die Sennerin vom Königsee they also landed a successful NDW classic.

As the Neue Deutsche Welle slowly ebbed, Herter and Dörr turned to the upbeat sophisti-pop that had spilled over from Great Britain to Germany . With their debut single Blue Night Shadow , Two of Us landed a top ten hit in Germany and Switzerland in the summer of 1985. The subsequent first album Twice as Nice , however, hardly sold. And even with the successor singles, the two could no longer build on their initial success. When the band's second album also flopped, Two of Us broke up in late 1988.

  • Thomas "Stibbich" Dörr (born March 24, 1963 in Reutlingen ) - joined the band Hubert Kah as a drummer at the age of 16. After working with Herter, he played for the bands Camouflage and Illi-Noiz. Today he works as a cook.
