The Lac Albanel is a lake a few kilometers east of the larger Lac Mistassini in the center of the Labrador Peninsula in the region Jamesie the Canadian province of Quebec .
The lake has a water area of 407 km², according to other sources a net area of 425 km² and a total area including islands of 444 km².
Lac Albanel is a 88 km long and 7 km wide lake that runs east of the parallel Lac Mistassini. Its main tributary is the Rivière Témiscamie . The lake has a drain to Lac Mistassini, which is drained by the Rivière Rupert . The northern end of Quebec Route 167 ends on the banks of Lac Albanel. The lake is completely contained in the 16,400 km² Réserve faunique des Lacs-Albanel-Mistassini-et-Waconichi .
etymology
The lake was originally called Petit lac Mistassini because it runs parallel to its larger neighbor, Lac Mistassini. In 1910 the lake was renamed in honor of Charles Albanel , who discovered it in 1672. Other name variations are: Lac Aubanel , Petit lac Mistassini , Lac Mistassiniche .
