The Lac du Mont Cenis is a reservoir in France at the Col du Mont Cenis southwest of the Signal du Grand Mont Cenis summit . It extends over a length of 4500 meters.

history

The Lac du Mont Cenis existed in a smaller form before it was dammed. For several centuries there was a hospice (a monastic hostel for those passing through) in its vicinity. The first dam wall was built in 1921, the current dam was built between 1962 and 1968 and is located at the southeast end of the lake on the Italian side of the pass connection. The historical hospice fell victim to the second damming. Forte Varisello is located above the dam at an altitude of 2106 meters .
