The black-headed gull theater or De Laboer black-headed gulls is the venue of the Niederdeutsche Bühne Laboe e. V. The stage, founded in 1986 in the Baltic Sea resort of Laboe , is one of the ten most successful semi-professional theaters in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein and, with around 80 performances annually, reaches an audience of over 12,000 people a year.

history

The black-headed gull theater

1986 to 1990 - foundation

In 1986 the stage was founded by Erna Kropp (†) from Laboe. At that time the group consisted of five members and was part of the Labor Welfare Association Laboe. The young theater group carried out the first four performances in the summer of 1987 with the play De goode Partie in the former Laboeer Hafenbörse. In 1987 a new venue was opened with the auditorium of the elementary and secondary school in Laboe. In 1990 the theater was named De Laboer black-headed gulls as part of an event organized by the Laboe spa administration . Erna Kropp gave up the management of the stage in 1987 and Ulla Harms and Traute Steffen followed in the management.

1991 to 1996

Continued in this way, the regional success of the group grew in the following years. The number of performances increased to around 15 performances per piece. A circumstance that some players increasingly perceived as a burden. Several members then left the stage, but this could be compensated for by new theater enthusiasts. Despite a change of line-up, the piece “Rosemary's Lustögungsstüer” was premiered on time in 1994. But in 1995 there was no peace. After disagreements with the board of the AWO-Laboe it came to a break and it was decided at a meeting on December 9th, 1995 to spin off from the workers welfare and to establish a new one. Through this re-establishment, the “Niederdeutsche Bühne Laboe e. V. “1996 independent.

1997 to 2001

In 1997, collaborations with radio and television emerged for the first time. The North German Broadcasting Corporation (NDR) was a guest in Laboe with the radio program “Musikbox”. Inspired by this, a quarter-hour television report was made for Schleswig-Holstein Magazin in the same year . Also in 1997 a complete performance of “Dat Dokterbook” was recorded for the Kiel Open Canal . Not least because of this media presence, the number of viewers grew rapidly. In 2001 there were already 3500 visitors. A rush that far exceeded the capacity of a school auditorium. Since we already knew about the poor structural condition of the school, discussions with the community of Laboe began to look for a new, separate venue for the stage.

2002 to 2006 - move

In 2002, the company performed for the first time outside of its own premises. In 2003, the last time was played in the Laboe school auditorium because the venue was about to be demolished. In 2004 the theater was able to move into a new venue in the conversion of a former kindergarten at the Laboeer Kurpark. With the play Sünnbrand and Sülverhochtied , which was specially translated into Low German , the premiere took place as the first play with an external, professional director. In 2006 the one-act play Wi kriegt Besöök was performed again in winter , the cornerstone of the now permanent rhythm of two pieces per year. The commitment of the group was rewarded in early 2006 with the community award of the community Laboe.

Since 2007

Outside of normal theater operations, the theater was completely redesigned. In 2007, an annex was added to the original building, which now houses the foyer. When it moved in 2011, the Hamburg Ohnsorg Theater gave the Laboeer stage some of its old seating, the famous red curtain and areas of the stage floor. As part of the installation of this equipment, the audience area and the stage area were completely renewed in 2011. Further structural measures include the construction of a further extension in 2015, which houses stage sets and props, as well as a fundamental redesign of the foyer, kitchen and sanitary area in 2017. There were also innovations in the artistic work of the stage. Since 2008, the entire ensemble has completed a professionally instructed acting course in Hamburg every year. In addition, the stage has been reinforced by professional actors in its ranks since 2011. In November 2012 the stage celebrated its 25th anniversary. In recognition of its longstanding commitment to the Low German language, the theater was awarded the 2014 Culture Prize of the Plön district . The 2016 summer season ended with a special gala performance on the occasion of the stage's 30th anniversary. In January 2017, the first chairman of the association, Traute Steffen, was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for her tireless work in the service of the theater and the associated social merits.
