The Offene Kanal Kiel ( OK Kiel for short ) is an open canal in Kiel owned by the Offener Kanal Schleswig-Holstein Anstalt d.ö.R. and consists of the television station Kiel TV and the radio station Kiel FM .

The Kiel Open Canal is part of the public-law institution Open Canal Schleswig-Holstein , which also includes the Open Canal Flensburg , the Open Canal Lübeck and the Open Canal West Coast . The headquarters of this institute is in the same building as OK Kiel in Kiel- Hassee .
The Offene Kanal Kiel has existed since 1991. Three permanent media assistants and a technician work there. In addition, working students and trainees media designers for image and sound are employed. In addition, the open channel also offers a voluntary social year for culture and politics.
Outdoor radio studios are located on the university campus and the technical college campus as well as in Norderstedt . The outdoor television studio is located in Rendsburg.
Kiel FM went on the air in 2002 and began with the claim “Everything is in”. In mid-May 2013 this was changed to “The voice that I know”. Since August 2018 it has been “uniquely different”. Station Voice is Leif Prengel .

Most of the slots on Kiel FM and Kiel TV are available to everyone. However, some broadcasting slots are permanently assigned. In order to be able to apply for such a fixed broadcasting slot, broadcasts must be produced regularly beforehand and completed on the agreed broadcast date.
Kiel TV
From the political life of Schleswig-Holstein, the council meetings of the city councils in Kiel and Neumünster, the district council meetings of the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district in Rendsburg, the state parliament meetings of the state parliament Schleswig-Holstein as well as roundtables before the respective meetings are regularly shown on Kiel TV.
Kiel FM
For the most part, the radio station's program is mixed, as each user can decide for himself what to report and what kind of music to broadcast. Students broadcast their program "Campus Radio" several times a week from two outdoor studios at the university and the technical college.
A separate radio program is created every year for the Kieler Woche , as the station gains a higher number of listeners during this period. For this reason, the regular Kiel FM program is no longer available . For this purpose, broadcasts are usually carried out with a mobile radio studio at the keel line .

In order to be able to use the offer of OK Kiel, one must be resident in Schleswig-Holstein , Hamburg or in the Syddanmark region , be at least 16 years old and present an identity card. Minors must register with their legal guardian. The necessary technical equipment is provided free of charge. Technically inexperienced people will be instructed beforehand. In addition, free technical and journalistic seminars and workshops take place regularly . Advertising of any kind is prohibited, neither classic advertising nor sponsoring , product placement or surreptitious advertising .
Reception area
Kiel FM is broadcast via VHF radio on frequency 101.2 from the Kiel telecommunications tower . The reception area is Kiel and its immediate vicinity with 360,000 inhabitants.
Kiel TV can be received via the Kiel cable network . The reception area includes the area around Kiel , Eckernförde , Rendsburg and Nortorf and their immediate surroundings, Neumünster and its northern, western and southern suburbs, as well as Bornhöved and Trappenkamp .
In addition to the usual reception options, there has been a live stream online for both television and radio programs since 2008 . This means that people outside of Kiel are also able to watch and hear programs. In mid-January 2014, the live stream of the radio program was converted by the flash player into an MP3 stream. This gives the broadcaster even more possible listeners who can receive the program with an Apple iPhone , for example.
