In resolution 829 of the UN Security Council , the UN Security Council decided on May 26, 1993 to recommend that the UN General Assembly approve the accession of the Principality of Monaco to the United Nations . The General Assembly followed this recommendation, so that Monaco became the 183rd member of the UN on May 28, 1993.

Monaco was thus the second of the three principalities of Monaco, Andorra and Liechtenstein to be a member of the United Nations. Andorra followed a little later in 1993, and Liechtenstein received membership in 1990.
