With Resolution 801 of the UN Security Council , the UN Security Council decided at its meeting on January 8, 1993 to admit the Czech Republic to the United Nations . This resolution constituted a recommendation to the General Assembly of the United Nations .

This was preceded by the division of Czechoslovakia into the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic after the fall of the communist regime. The division took effect on January 1, 1993.

The recommendation on admission of Slovakia to the United Nations was adopted by the Security Council in the same session through Resolution 800 .
