The Resolution 862 of the UN Security Council is a resolution that the United Nations Security Council unanimously decided at its meeting on August 31 3272. 1993rd It reaffirmed Resolutions 841 and 861 and the agreement between the President of Haiti and the Commander in Chief of the Haiti Armed Forces . The Council reaffirmed the international community's commitment to a solution in Haiti and discussed the establishment of a new police force under a proposed United Nations mission in Haiti (UNMIH).

This includes the immediate dispatch of an advance team of no more than 30 people to identify needs and to prepare for the possible deployment of both civilian police and military auxiliary components of UNMIH. The advance team's mandate would last for a month, with the prospect of joining the UNMIH peacekeeping mission once it is in place.

The Council awaited another report from Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali on the proposed establishment of the UNMIH and its financial cost, timeframe, expected completion and coordination with the work of the Organization of American States and also requested it to meet with the Government of Haiti To conclude agreements on the status of the armed forces to facilitate an early deployment of the UNMIH if the Council so decided. The mission was finally formally established by resolution 867 .
