With resolution 800 of the UN Security Council , the UN Security Council decided in its meeting on January 8, 1993 to admit Slovakia to the United Nations . This resolution constituted a recommendation to the General Assembly of the United Nations .

This was preceded by the division of Czechoslovakia into the Czech Republic and Slovakia after the fall of the communist regime. This division took effect on January 1, 1993.

The recommendation for the Czech Republic to join the United Nations was passed by the Security Council at the same meeting through Resolution 801 .
