Ladies versus Butlers! ( Japanese. れ で ぃ × ば と! , Redi × Bato! ) is a media franchise based on the light novel series of the same name by Tsukasa Kōzuki . This was marketed from September 2006 to March 2012 in Japan by ASCII Media Works under the label Dengeki Bunko and was adapted in various other media, including radio plays , mangas and an anime television series.

action

The focus of the plot is the student Hino Akiharu. While still in elementary school, he lost his parents and was raised by his uncle. When he hears that an elite school, the Hakureiryō Gakuin , has opened, he decides to take the entrance exam and succeeds. He is accepted into the property management branch of the school, in which the students are trained to be maids and butlers, while the female “elite” learn to behave like future housewives.

But on the very first day he runs into the very vain and easily angry Sernia Iori Flameheart. Trying to ignore her and her manner quickly leads to an argument, at the end of which both fall and Sernia sees herself as the victim of a clumsy advances. Then she chases Hino across the school and he unintentionally bumps into many other girls who also feel harassed by him. Ultimately, he meets Tomomi Saikyo, who should meet him on his visit. She protects him from his persecutors. At the same time, however, Hino has to realize that it is Tomomi Suzuhashi from his elementary school who he remembers as the consistently bad girl and (apparently) still is. The girl's last name changed because her mother married another man.

In the further course of an eternal "fight" between Sernia and Tomomi is shown, in which both almost any means are right. Sernia in particular repeatedly gets into uncomfortably embarrassing situations, which usually ends to Hino's chagrin. In this way, Hino gradually gets to know more and more girls from school and gradually manages to get rid of the bad reputation he had caught on the first day.

Adaptations

Manga

Based on the plot of the book series, Nekoyashiki-Nekomaru drew a manga that was published in Dengeki Moeoh magazine from April 26, 2008 (issue 6/2008) to October 25, 2008 (issue 12/2008) . The chapters were also summarized in an anthology on December 18, 2009 ( Tankōbon ; ISBN 978-4-04-868296-1 ). Like the book series, both the magazine and the publication will be published as Tankōbon by ASCII Media Works .

radio play

A radio play about an hour long was released on September 8, 2009. Like the Internet radio broadcast, the radio play was mainly used to advertise the anime television series in advance. In addition to the actual radio play, it contained various extras that described the characters of the series. The CD itself contained three stories, the first and third of which were taken from the book series. The speakers for the radio play are identical to those for the anime television series.

Internet radio broadcast

An internet radio show that also promotes anime and other media , Mai to Mariya Radio versus Butlers! ( 麻衣 と 茉莉 也 の ら じ × ば と ! , Mai to Mariya no Raji × Bato! ) Began on September 28, 2009 and is operated by the anime's official website. As the title suggests, the show is moderated by Mai Goto and Mariya Ise , who played the roles of Pina Sufolmuclan Estoh and Kaede Tenjōji in the anime. The signature music of the show is the title Arashi o Yobu Party Nau ( 嵐 を 呼 ぶ パ ー テ ィ な う? ), Which was also sung by the two seiyū .

Anime

An implementation as an anime television series was produced by Studio Xebec under the direction of Atsushi Ōtsuki . The series has been broadcast on the Japanese channel AT-X since January 5, 2010 . On December 29, 2009 AT-X showed a special about the series.
