Ladislav Čepelák

Ladislav Čepelák (born June 25, 1924 in Veltrusy , † October 9, 2000 in Prague ) was a Czech painter, graphic artist and illustrator.

Life

He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts (AVU) in Prague under professors V. Rada, V. Silovský, whose assistant he later became, V. Nechleb and J. Želibský.

In 1964 he was entrusted with the management of the graphic workshop. In 1967 Čepelák was appointed lecturer in the graphics department, and twenty years later professor. After the Velvet Revolution , he returned his awards to National Artist and Honored Teacher . In 1995 he was the first artist to receive the Vladimír Boudník Prize.

Since 1948, his graphic sheets have mostly been created in cycles of several years. He uses different drawing techniques, almost all of them in black and white. His graphics, mostly nature images, are produced in-house using gravure printing. From 1964 to 1966, two collections were published that dealt with changes in nature. He also illustrated books. However, he did not adhere to the content. His pictures can be found in the Prague National Gallery and in private collections in the Czech Republic and abroad.

Many of the students he trained call themselves Čepelákovci today .
