The Lady Musgrave Island is a 0,275 square kilometer uninhabited coral island . It belongs to the Australian state of Queensland , and is located on the east coast of the Australian continent and, as the southernmost island of the Bunker Group, forms the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef with Lady Elliot Island further south .

history

The island was named after the wife of Sir Anthony Musgrave . In 1938, half of the island was declared a national park , until finally the rest of the island was also included in 1967.

Flora and fauna

The island is densely forested and populated by numerous birds such as gulls , frigate birds and gannets . Some large turtles live in the lagoon .

Tourism and underwater world

The most common way to get to the island is through Agnes Water and Bundaberg . The underwater world of Lady Musgrave Island is just as fascinating as the world above sea level, if not more interesting. There are very rare fish in large numbers. There are whale watching boat tours in the area between mid-August and mid-October. The huge coral reefs attract many divers every year. Since the island is under nature protection, it may only be entered in small groups, the number of campers on the island is strictly limited.

climate

The island has a tropical climate. Average annual temperatures are around 20 ° C in winter and 30 ° C in summer.
