Laerdal Medical is a Norwegian manufacturer of medical devices and training products for medical education.
history
The company was founded in 1940 by Åsmund S. Laerdal and initially produced children's books and toys made of wood. From 1951 dolls and toy cars under the brand name Tomte Laerdal were also made from vinyl .
Later, the company - with its experience in plastics processing - devoted itself more and more to the production of realistic wound simulations for training in emergency medicine. In 1960 the so-called Resusci-Anne was presented, a standardized doll that is used to learn and train cardiopulmonary resuscitation as part of first aid . In the 1960s, equipment was also produced for preclinical measures, for example for the rescue service . Defibrillators were also produced in the 1980s . In the 1990s, the presentation of the Stifneck followed , a plastic cuff that immobilizes the cervical spine (cervical spine) . Today Laerdal sells its products in 23 countries and employs around 1,400 people, most of them - around 400 - at the company's headquarters in Stavanger.
