Lagerstrasse (Hamburg)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The camp road in the districts of Hamburg St. Pauli and Sternschanze (between Schanzenstraße and Karolinenstraße ) was built around 1868, when the " Zollverein defeats " of the German customs union were set up in cities outside the customs territory. Similar to free ports , these consisted of spatially delimited and customs-secured warehouse complexes. In Hamburg, this warehouse complex was built in the Sternschanze district with the adjacent “Lagerstraße”. The railway line of the Hamburg-Altona connecting railway was already close to and parallel to this road .

As it is today (2019), Lagerstrasse connects the northern section of Schanzenstrasse with Karolinenstrasse to the east . The originally straight course was angled in order to gain space for the now adjoining halls of Hamburg Messe .

To the north of Lagerstraße, in the area of the Hamburg Sternschanze train station , are the Schanzenhöfe ; from the south, Sternstraße joins Lagerstraße. The southern side of Lagerstraße borders the facilities of the Hamburg meat wholesale market .

At today's eastern end of Lagerstraße is the listed building of the former "Karoline" power station
