Situation center
A situation center is an organizational unit within an authority or facility that centrally monitors and administers a certain situation . The situation center collects, bundles and evaluates information such as situation reports and forwards them to management bodies. It has no direct leadership or management function.
Examples
The Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Aid (BBK) in Bonn operates the Joint Reporting and Situation Center (GMLZ) as the backbone of the federal disaster risk management and aid. Situation centers exist in the federal states, i. d. They are usually located in the respective Ministry of the Interior and - depending on the structure of the country - subordinate situation centers of the police authorities . As with the Bundeswehr , these facilities are always manned. Further situation centers in disaster control in the federal states can be operated as required.
The German Red Cross has a command and situation center (FÜLZ) at the headquarters of its general secretariat in Berlin, which can coordinate large-scale DRK missions (several regional associations involved) or missions abroad. Another situation center is located in the Federal Government's Press and Information Office . Its task consists in the analysis and assessment of the news situation at home and abroad, intended to inform the Federal Government, as it is conveyed in national and international media (print, digital, online, radio).
