The Lagois Photo Prize honors photographs and photo reports from the fields of culture, society, social policy and religion every two years. Its namesake is the German theologian, photographer and filmmaker Martin Lagois .

background

In 2008 the art historian and journalist Rieke C. Harmsen founded the Lagois photo competition in the Evangelical Press Association for Bavaria e. V. (EPV). Since then, the media company has been awarding the award, endowed with a total of 5000 euros, every two years. In 2010, in addition to the photo prize, funding for an as yet unfinished photo project was introduced. In 2018, the tender was also aimed at young people aged 14 and over. In 2018/2019, the photo competition on the subject of cultural heritage was supported by the German UNESCO Commission . The Bavarian regional bishop Susanne Breit-Keßler is the patron of the Lagois competition. The winners are determined by a jury made up of representatives from the Bavarian regional church , the Evangelical Press Association for Bavaria e.
