The Laguna San Francisco is a lake on the southern edge of the Illampú mountain range in the La Paz department in Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The Laguna San Francisco is located at a distance of 20 kilometers west of the Gulf of Achacachi , the southeastern bay of Lake Titicaca . The lake lies at an altitude of 4492  m and extends 2.2 kilometers in length and up to 0.5 kilometers in width. Its area is 0.8 square kilometers and the circumference of the lake is 5.3 kilometers. Administratively, the northern part of the lake belongs to the canton Ancoma of the Municipio Sorata in the province of Larecaja ; the majority of the lake belongs to the canton Warisata of the municipality Achacachi in the province of Omasuyos .

Water network

The lake is mainly fed by the glacial water of the Yacuma Glacier , which flows into the lake from the north over the Río Uma Jalanta. The outflow of the lake is on its south bank, from here the Río Corhuar Jahuira flows first in a south, later in a westerly direction past the scattered settlement of Chiarhuyo and flows, fed by further tributaries from the east, in the northeast corner of the Gulf of Achacachi .
