Lahidsch ( Arabic لحج, DMG Laḥiǧ ) or al-Hawtah (الحوطة, DMG al-Ḥauṭa ) is a Yemeni city located between Taizz and nearby Aden in the governorate of the same name . In 1994 the city had about 19,000 inhabitants. In 2003 it was over 27,000 according to calculations. Lahij was the capital of the Sultans of Lahij.

The city was founded between the 18th and 20th centuries by the Al-Abdali family dynasty and the Al-Sallami, Al-Ramada, Al-Sindi and al-Aqrabi families, who go back to the Islamic prophet Mohammed ( Ahl al -bait ), reigns.

The region in the hinterland of Aden remained undiscovered for a long time, reinforced by the failure of a project in 1907 to realize the planned construction of a railway from Aden via Lahidsch to Dhala and Sanaa .
