Lahidschan (also Lahidjan , Persian لاهيجان Lāhījān ) is a major city in northwestern Iran . It is located in the province of Gilân , not far from the southwestern part of the Caspian Sea . The city has about 94,000 inhabitants (October 2011 census). Because of its many tea plantations, Lahidschan is known as the city of " the green carpet ". The "Lāhījān Spring Tea" is considered a product of the highest quality in Iran. Not only tea, but also bamboo cultivation and silk production have made the region known far beyond the region since time immemorial. Rice is also grown in this fertile region.

The city has a university, the Azad Islamic University Lāhīdschān, with a comprehensive educational format .

At the foot of the Scheitan Kuh (Devil's Mountain or Satan's Mountain) on the outskirts of Lahidschan lies the Lahidschan Lake (Estachreh Lahidschan), from which it is possible to climb the aforementioned mountain past a waterfall. Before the revolution , efforts were made to build a cable car here. The project failed after the ground station was completed. With Austrian help, the gondola lift was finally completed in 2006. The Scheitan cow gives excellent views of the Caspian Sea.
