The community was created in the course of the regional reform in Hesse on December 31, 1970 through the voluntary amalgamation of the then independent communities Goßfelden and Sarnau . It is one of the communities that merged on a voluntary basis at the beginning of the regional reform. On July 1, 1974, the still young community was merged with three other communities to form the extended community of Lahntal by virtue of state law .
