Josef Capousek

Josef Bohumir Capoušek (born January 14, 1946 in Prague ) is a German canoeing coach .

Life

Capousek fled to Germany in the Prague Spring . There he studied sports science and political science from 1969 to 1980 at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . He financed his studies with odd jobs.

In 1980 he became national trainer at the German Canoe Association (DKV) for the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr and juniors. In 1988 he took over the post of head coach for all canoe racing and since 1992 has been responsible for 17 Olympic victories . From 2005 Capousek was canoeing head trainer in China . A few weeks before the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , Capousek was dismissed after critical interviews on the pretext of expected unsuccessfulness. He then worked for the British Canoe Union and has been under contract with the Italian Canoe Association since 2010.

Capousek is divorced. He has a son and a daughter. He lives in Duisburg .
