Lajeosa (sometimes also Lageosa ) is a locality and former municipality ( Freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( Concelho ) of Oliveira do Hospital . On June 30, 2011 the community had 553 inhabitants on an area of 5.2 km². Since 2013 Lajeosa has been part of the newly created municipality of Lagos da Beira e Lajeosa .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1258. In 1527 the place was the seat of an independent district (concelho), but after a few years it came to the district of Vila do Casal. Since its dissolution on November 6, 1836, Lajeosa has belonged to the Oliveira do Hospital district.
As part of the extensive public austerity measures and the announced amalgamation of numerous municipalities across the country, the dissolution of the independent municipality of Lajeosa was also announced. The district administration rejected the upcoming resolutions.
In the course of the municipal reorganization of Portugal on September 29, 2013, the municipality of Lajeosa and Lagos da Beira merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Lagos da Beira e Lajeosa . The seat of the new municipality became Lagos da Beira.
Culture and sights
The parish church Igreja Paroquial de Lageosa (also Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Expectação ) dates from the first half of the 18th century and is a listed building.
