Lajos Németh (football player, 1944)

Lajos Németh (born August 14, 1944 - January 26, 2014 ) was a Hungarian football player and referee .

After a career as a football player, he was first division referee in Hungary from 1981 to 1993 and international referee in the service of the world football association FIFA from 1983 to 1991 . He was also used at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico , where he led the preliminary round match between Scotland and Denmark (0: 1) in preliminary group E, in which the teams from Uruguay and Germany also played.

In Germany he gained fame as referee of the quarter-final second leg in the European Cup Winners' Cup 1985/86 on March 19, 1986 between Bayer 05 Uerdingen and Dynamo Dresden , the so-called miracle of the Grotenburg .

On April 5, 1989, with the first leg in the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup between VfB Stuttgart and Dynamo Dresden, he again led a German-German pairing in the European Cup.
