The Lake Buddha is a Glacial Lake in Denton Hills on the Scott Coast in the East Antarctic Victoria Land . It lies on the southern edge of the Joyce Glacier in a valley known as Shangri-la .
Participants in a campaign that lasted from 1960 to 1961 as part of New Zealand's Victoria University's Antarctic Expeditions named it after the religious founder Buddha (563 BC - 483 BC) based on the aforementioned valley .
