The Lake JB Thomas is a reservoir on the Colorado River in the US state of Texas and is the backwater of the Colorado River Dam . It is on the border of Borden County and Scurry County .
Work on this retention basin began on April 29, 1951 and was named after the chief engineer of the then newly established state-owned electricity company Texas Electric Service Company , JB Thomas . It was completed in 1952.
The area of the lake is about 31,646 m² and the area of the catchment area 9.12 km². The storage capacity is 251,182 m³ and is the water supplier for the cities of Big Spring , Odessa and Snyder . The lake is used by many settlers as a local recreation area.
